Editor's Note: "Around the Lake" allows the Lake Area's five chambers of commerce directors, Convention and Visitors Bureau director and Tri-County Lodging Association director to share upcoming event information, local issues and fun topics with The Lake Today's readers. Make sure to check out the "Around the Lake" column to find out all about what's happening at the Lake from the area's top people "in the know."
First, I want to thank the Entire Lake Today staff for providing excellent coverage of the Versailles Area. Our 2012 events surpassed our goals. This publication did a superb job helping us promote our area and provided a wealth of information to the readers.
This level of service is greatly appreciated and we look forward to a wonderful relationship for the New Year. The Lake Today understands the importance of The Lake Area chambers to succeed and promote.
Every community around the Lake has "special" interests for tourism. The Versailles Area is very fortunate to have a wealth of these "special" interests. We can start at the downtown square; credit goes out to the leaders who designed this attraction.
Historical Buildings surround the square. These buildings are offices for professional services, banking, Retail gifts, restaurants and to showcase our local talent and other entertainment The Royal Theatre. We have a historical museum that will take you back in time and educate you on the History of Versailles. As you branch away from the square you will find lodging including a Bed and Breakfast in a beautiful historical building. Numerous businesses have been here for years because they offer exceptional products and services.
On the Industrial side The Gates Corporation was fortunate to pick up additional product lines. They have expanded their square footage and amount of employees. One of our major assets is the proximity with our town and the highways. We were fortunate to have a new restaurant open in town a couple of years ago. Since the grand opening the owner has expanded numerous times, and the last expansion will seat an additional 50 people. Good food, good service and location adjacent to a highway. One major contributing factor to our economic stability and tourism is good friendly service. So when you hear, "Shop the Friendly Town of Versailles" you know this slogan was derived from experience.
Even though winter is considered our quiet time, Mignon Dureka, our director has been working diligently on a 2013 calendar of events.
Every month will consist of an event that will enable our members to interact. Every quarter has at least one larger scale event scheduled to promote tourism. Our Farmers Market will start in spring and with Mother Nature's blessing we will have an abundance of fresh locally grown produce - another good reason to "Shop the Friendly Town of Versailles."
Our Annual Membership meeting is Jan.19 at the Rolling Hills Country Club. If you would like to attend please contact the Chamber office at 573-378-4401.
