Lake of the Ozarks Council of Local Governments (LOCLG) is scheduled to host the second public meeting for the Miller County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update 2013. The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the Eldon High School Library.
The meeting, which will be presented by Barlow Biggers, Hazard Mitigation plan writer, along with LOCLG, is slated to identify the risks and natural hazards that have had an impact on Miller County. Each identified natural hazard will be measured for probability and severity. Each jurisdiction is encouraged to attend, as LOCLG will be asking them to complete a Community Assessment Survey to be incorporated in the planning process.
Natural disasters can lead to loss of life, property damages, loss of essential services, loss of critical facilities and economic disruption. Miller County recognizes the impact of these disasters on the county's communities and is taking a proactive approach to updating the county's Hazard Mitigation Plan. Through the planning process, LOLCG hopes to make communities more resilient.
Hazard mitigation by definition is any actions taken to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from natural hazards. It is very important that LOCLG has a good representation from across the county to ensure it has the support for the plan update in each local community.
The LOCLG looks forward to developing a comprehensive and effective Hazard Mitigation plan to serve the communities' needs.
The Eldon High School is located at 101 S. Pine St. in Eldon.
