The Oct. 21 Symphony of the Lake "Great Classics" concert was cancelled.
Nancee Byington, founder and board of directors member of Symphony of the Lake, announced the cancellation late last week.
"Regrettably, and beyond our control, we have lost over 12 musicians over the past 10 days.
Although we have approached numerous other and new contacts, the late invitation and their own schedules prevented most of them from helping us," she said in a press release. "They have asked to be invited to join us in the future concerts. For these reasons, we are postponing the concert until April."
Byington also stated in the press release the organization's sincere apologies to the visiting and Lake musicians who were committed to making this an outstanding concert, to the organizations who recruited collaborating musicians to play with the symphony, to the patrons who were planning to attend the concert, to the advertisers in the concert program, to the conductors leading practices and the concert, to School of the Osage High School and its staff and board for venue hosting, to concert volunteers and to so many others who helped along the way.
Byington the Symphony of the Lake will start immediately planning for its 2013 concerts, currently scheduled for April 14 and Oct. 20.
On the weekend of Oct. 18-20, 2014, the Symphony of the Lake will be helping to host the first mid-MO all-district/all-state orchestra competition in partnership with several music organizations, school districts. They Symphony's members are collecting the instrument sheet music to have available for future concerts.
The Symphony of the Lake also continues to plan for full-launch next steps of the Lake String Academy and the accompanying "Classical Rewards ... Be Classy" incentive program to encourage interest and enrollment in string instrument instruction.
