Basketball season is underway and the Eldon Mustangs hit the courts Monday, Nov. 19 as the boys' team took on Linn at home and the girls' took the show on the road to Linn.

It was a good night for the Mustangs as the boys won at home with a 41-30 win over the Wildcats while the Lady Mustangs notched up a road win of 57-43.

At home, the boys scored on their first shots and held the lead in to a 10-5 first quarter tally. Linn fought back, tied it up 17-all at the half, and came back out fighting to sink the first basket of the second half for a brief lead.

Eldon's Chris Hulsey dropped in consecutive three-pointers to give Eldon a 25-19 lead that they would not give back.

Hulsey led the team with 15 points, all three-pointers. Zach Shreve connected for nine points and scored assists for three.

Junior Sam Lincoln finished for the Mustangs with eight points and snagged six rebounds while Blake Randall added five points and six rebounds of his own. Beau Roseblock and Josh Jones rounded it out with a basket each.

The Lady Mustangs weren't quite as successful in their opener, but kept it a battle all the way.

Falling behind 17-16 after the first quarter, the ladies cranked it up and grabbed a 28-22 lead to take into the half.

They kept the pace in the third quarter, finishing it with a five-point 41-36 lead. The Lady Mustangs would not back off and they outshot the Wildcats 16-7 in the fourth for the win.

Sarah Rhine led with 28 points. She was stellar at defense as well, rebounding nine shots and blocking five.

Jordan Schmidt added 11 points and Becca Lasson finished with six. Lasson also pumped it up grabbing 12 rebounds and adding three assists.

Ashley Hogan and Sara Evers each added four points while Hanna Green and Logan Reed finished with two each.

Both teams hit the courts again on Nov. 30. The boys will host Fatima while the girls will be on the road again, taking on the Lady Comets at Fatima. The boys match starts at 7:30 p.m. and the girls at 6 p.m.
