Eldon has new city clerk

November 21st, 2012 in News

Following the retirement of longtime City Clerk Becky Dolby, on Nov. 13, Eldon Mayor Ron Bly appointed Fran Suttmoller to take her place.

Dolby, who has held the position for a decade and is retiring for personal reasons, will serve her last day with the city on 27th of this month.

Suttmoller has been with the city since 2008 holding a number of positions including utility billing and keeping the cemetery records. She said in addition to her duties as city clerk she will continue to act in both those capacities as well perform the duties of human resources officer.

"I bought a new program for keeping the cemetery records," Suttmoller said. "And I haven't yet finished getting everything entered into it so I want to keep going with that project until I know it's right."

Under Missouri's Revised Statutes, "The city clerk shall, among other duties, keep the journal of the proceedings of the council. He shall safely and properly keep all records and papers belonging to the city, which may be entrusted to his care, and generally shall perform all the duties required of him by ordinance or orders of the council. He is hereby empowered to administer official oaths, and also oaths to persons certifying to demands or claims against the city."

Suttmoller said she is looking forward to working with the elected officials in handling the city affairs and is confident that she will be able to perform the job successfully with Dolby's help.

"Becky said she would gladly help me though these early stages of the job and I absolutely trust her since she was so good as city clerk for such a long time," Suttmoller said.

According to the Eldon city website, "the mission of the city clerk is to provide "services essential for growth, development and enhancement of (the city's) quality of life and to provide timely and effective service to the community. Deliver that service with reason and compassion. (And to) be professional, courteous, and efficient, showing genuine concern for individual's needs and well-being."

Although Suttmoller was appointed to complete Dolby's term, in Eldon the city clerk is an elected position that comes open during the municipal elections in April.
