Eagle Days 2013 is less than two months away, and organizers are encouraging the community to become an Eagle Days supporter with a program deadline of Dec. 3. However, committee members said sponsors will be accepted anytime.

The event, which is presented by the Lake of the Ozarks Convention and Visitor Bureau, Tri-County Lodging Association, Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Lake Printing, Charter Business, Missouri Naturalist (Lake of the Ozarks chapter) and Osage National Golf Resort, is scheduled to take place Jan. 5-6, 2013.

Highlights of the program include live eagles from the World Bird Sanctuary with naturalists on hand to answer questions at Osage National Golf Resort. Interactive exhibits and crafts will take place at Willmore Lodge, as well as wild eagle watching below Bagnell Dam at the Osage River access. Other activities include a coloring contest with prizes for children, a photography contest with cash prizes and eagle viewing cruises aboard the Tom Sawyer Paddlewheeler over the two-day event.

According to organizers, sponsors, donations from the community and business and area leader support make the event possible and secure display birds from the World Bird Sanctuary.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) originally funded the Eagle Days event, however, in the fall of 2009 the MDC announced that due to budget constraints the Eagle Days event here at the Lake would no longer be held. Luckily, community support and these loyal lead organizers have continued to increase visitors to the popular Lake of the Ozarks Eagle Days from around the state and across the nation.

Currently, sponsors include: B&B Heating & Cooling, Berger's Marina, First National Bank, Graves & Associates CPA's, Inn at Harbor Ridge Bed & Breakfast, J. Bruner's, Lake of the Ozarks Shrine Club, Marvin and Lucille Sillman, Paul's Supermarket and Women's Health Consultants. In-kind sponsors include: Tan-Tar-A Resort, The Lake Today, Lake Media, 101.9 The Wave, 107.9 The Coyote, KRCG-13 television station, KRMS radio station, Benne Media, Charter Media, Hy-Vee, Bob's No Wake Zone, Coca-Cola, Inn at Grand Glaize and Lake Printing.

Last year, Eagle Days saw more than 3,700 visitors from Missouri and approximately 50 from other states last year, including Kansas, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois and Texas to name a few.

This is a great opportunity for visitors to see live eagles both in their natural habitat and up close and personal during a free, family-friendly event. The Eagle Days Committee is encouraged the community will continue to step up to bring the popular Eagle Days to the Lake once again.
