Osage varsity boy's basketball kicks off

Osage varsity boy's basketball kicked off their season last week as they participated in the Eugene Invitational Tournament and finished in sixth place after falling to Russellville on Friday.

The tournament opener for the No. 5 seed Indians was a face off with the tournament No. 4 seed Blair Oaks Falcons on Tuesday night.

Osage feel behind from the start and never caught up, falling 10-6 after the first quarter and losing 33-14 at the half. It was 52-26 at the end of three, and Blair Oaks outscored the Indians 14-6 in the fourth quarter to take the first round loss of 66-32.

Jordan Campbell led the Indians with 10 points. Freddy Wackenhut followed with eight points, and Dylan Jeffries had six. Collin Samuelson followed with four points and Wyatt Whitman and Hayden Drace each added two points.

The team went on to face Calvary Lutheran on Wednesday and picked up their first win for the season with a 40-30 victory.

The Indians took an early 8-2 lead after the first quarter and never gave it up, outscoring Calvary to take a 21-7 lead into the half.

Calvary fought back in the second half, outscoring the Indians 16-10 in the third quarter, but it wouldn't be enough to ever take the lead.

Wackenhut led again with 14 points followed by Jordan Campbell and Dylan Jeffries with eight points each. Jeffries was six for 10 shots at the freethrow line and Campbell was the only Indian to connect from the three-point area. Hayden Drace added four points and Whitman and Samuelson each added two points.

The Indians advanced to the fifth place game facing Russellville but fell 54-49. Blair Oaks took first place in the tourney, beating California 68-54 in the championship round. Eugene took third, and Versailles took fourth. Calvary took the Sportsmanship Trophy.

The Indians opened at home last night and will travel to Richland this Friday. The junior varsity will tip off at 6 p.m., and the varsity game will follow.
