Eldon Mayor Ron Bly left the room during the July 23 Board of Aldermen meeting to take a phone call and returned with confirmation of exciting news for the city; a new Hardee’s restaurant will open this fall at the location of the old Hardee’s.
Rosenfield Restaurants, a company based in Denver, has leased the old Hardee’s property at 301 E. 4th St. from owner G.E. Capital. The property has been vacant since the Hardee’s closed about 13 years ago, and Bly has been in discussions with G.E. Capital about doing something with it for at least a year.
“The property’s just been sitting the whole time,” Bly said. “I’ve been working with Rosenfield for probably the last four months to get the project going and get it to a point where we could move on it."
Rosenfield Restaurants will renovate the building before its projected opening date of Sept. 1. Rosenfield, which operates several restaurants nationwide, renovated and reopened a restaurant building in Liberty, Mo., that is identical to the Eldon building, Bly said.
“The property’s going to get a complete facelift,” he continued. “That’s another corner that we’ve got fixed.”
Bly said the city is looking forward to the restaurant’s opening for several reasons – specifically jobs, aesthetics, more dining options and sales tax. As Eldon has no property taxes, new businesses like Hardee’s help develop the city’s sales tax base.
“This will probably be a good shot in the arm for the city,” Bly said.
