In July, Lake Regional Health System will host Show-Me Better Health, a series of free workshops to help Miller County residents manage ongoing health issues, like diabetes, heart disease and chronic pain.
Classes, based on criteria developed by Stanford University, will be held 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Thursday from July 11 through Aug. 22, at the Eldon Community Center at 309 E. 2nd St.
Participants meet the first week for orientation and a health screening, then 2.5 hours weekly for six weeks to develop needed skills and receive support. Sessions cover topics related to living with a chronic condition, including goal setting, exercise, nutrition, communicating with health professionals, managing emotions, medications and stress reduction.
Each week, participants will set goals and will meet to share ideas. During the introductory session, participants will receive a free book and DVD. Participants each may bring one guest. Refreshments will be provided.
Space is limited, and registration is required. For information, including additional workshop dates, or to register, visit lakeregional.com/events or call 573-348-8222.
Additional workshops will be offered on an ongoing basis, rotating among locations in Camden, Morgan and Miller counties.
