Dogwood Elementary announces reading goal, motivates with assembly

As Christmas vacation approached for Camdenton R-III School District Dogwood Elementary students, principal Shawn Dandoy, wanted to remind students of the importance of reading over Christmas break. To get students motivated to read an assembly was held and Principal Dandoy, Assistant Principal Laura O’Quinn, and custodian Nona Stegall dressed up and danced around to the song “Gotta Keep Reading.” Dogwood has set a building-wide goal of reading 5,000 books, newspapers, or magazines over Christmas break. If students reach their goal, Dandoy has promised to dress as a chicken and do the chicken dance. Principal Dandoy explains, “Everyone is excited about the possibility of a little chicken dance! It is our hope the children will enjoy the extra opportunities the break will allow to read. We increased the number of books the students can check out of our library. The goal of 5,000 thousand books read is challenging – but it is certainly attainable!”
