CHS hosts Math Relays in mid-January

Camdenton High School (CHS) hosted the 6th Annual CHS Math Relays on Jan. 19. More than 300 students from 15 schools in Missouri and Kansas competed in the event.

Camdenton's Math Club members were responsible for organizing and running the contest. This included writing 25 different tests covering mathematical topics such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability and statistics, sports math and calculus as well as proctoring the exams (with the help of National Honor Society members), and grading the tests.

"The students did an outstanding job,” said Nancy McKinney, math chair. “The event was a huge success due to their hard work and dedication."

Previously, the CHS math students competed in the Smithton Math Contest earning second place in Division III. Results were: Graphing 11: Eric Sinner, first place, and Casey White, fifth place; Complex Numbers 12: Justin Murdock, first place, and Travis Nowak , third place; Exponents/Logarithms: Rose Anderson, first place, and Sam McKinney, fifth place; Geometry 10: Taylor Erickson, first place, and Shelby Huey, second place; Geometry 11: Paula Zaretzky, second place; Geometry 12: Matt Riga, third place; Trigonometry: Rose Anderson, second place, and Laura Weiss, fourth place; Algebra 10: Shelby Huey, second place, and Taylor Erickson, fifth place; Algebra 11: Eric Sinner, first place, and Casey White, fourth place; Algebra 12: Rose Anderson, first place; Advanced Topics: Sam McKinney, second place, and Travis Nowak, third place; Word Problems 10: Austin Waddle, first place, Shelby Huey, fourth place, and Elizabeth Sinner, fifth place; Word Problems 11: Eric Sinner, fifth place; Word Problems 12: Laura Weiss, third place, and Sam McKinney, fifth place; Matrix Math: Rose Anderson, first place, and Travis Nowak, second place; Team 10: Taylor Erickson, Ellie Harmon, Shelby Huey, and Elizabeth, second place; Team 11: Justin Murdock, Eric Sinner and Casey White, first place; Team 12: Sam McKinney, Matt Riga, Travis Nowak and Laura Weiss, second place; Mixed Team: Rose Anderson, Paula Zaretzky and Austin Waddle, first place; Top Tenth Grader: Shelby Huey, second place; Top Eleventh Grader: Eric Sinner, second place; and Top Twelfth Grader: Rose Anderson, first place.
