Flags for Freedom Outreach, a local non-for-profit organization, is dedicated to the needs of military members and their families.
The organization values its mission, “To support members of the armed services and their families during deployment; wounded warriors and their families during recovery and reintegration to civilian life; and to provide a national remembrance honoring those that gave their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
One of the many programs Flags for Freedom Outreach does is send morale packages to troops stationed in overseas. For the past seven years, the group has sent over 4,000 morale packages to more than 1,200 soldiers and marines in platoons serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, the group also accepts donations, holds a number of additional fundraisers and events, such as one of their largest benefits – their annual golf tournament.
Through Dec. 7 Flags for Freedom Outreach is collecting items for several military troops from Fort Leonard Wood and other local soldiers that are stationed in Afghanistan. Requested items include non-perishable food items such as crackers, popcorn, beef jerky, summer sausages, peanuts, cookies, candy, salsa, etc. Toiletry items including foot powders, white athletic socks, toothpaste, tooth brushes, and soaps are requested as well as board/card games.
Those who wish to make the life of a solider a little bit brighter this Christmas can by dropping off items to donate or make a monetary donation to the club so they can purchase items.
Items can be dropped off at Hy-Vee’s customer service or by contacting Flag for Freedom’s club president Candy Adams at 573-434-1584. To learn more about this organization, visit www.flagsforfreedomoutreach.org.
