Editor’s Note: “Around the Lake” allows the Lake Area’s five chambers of commerce directors, Convention and Visitors Bureau director and Tri-County Lodging Association director to share upcoming event information, local issues and fun topics with The Lake Today’s readers. This week, the Eldon Chamber of Commerce decided to let readers know about its upcoming “Home for the Holidays” Eldon Christmas Celebration Friday and Saturday, as well as a free web seminar on Thursday. On Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17, residents and visitors to Eldon will enjoy a longstanding annual tradition that truly encourages everyone to get into the holiday spirit.
This popular Eldon Community Christmas Celebration with a variety of activities brings its guests and participants you “Home for the Holidays,” which is this year’s theme.
On Friday night at the Eldon Community Center, events begin with winners of the Baby Holly and Baby Berry contests, and Miss Holly and Mister Berry contests announced at 6 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., the seventh grade Christmas Prince and princess and eighth grade Christmas king and queen contests winners will be announced. Then, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. a middle school dance will be held with light refreshments provided.
On Saturday, the celebration kicks off with a parade, themed with “The 12 Days of Christmas” beginning at 10 a.m. in downtown Eldon. A variety of floats, marching bands, businesses, church and civic organizations, and additional participants will make their way through town tossing out candy and other free giveaways to spectators.
After the parade, guests can get pictures with Santa at 3 p.m. in the Eldon Community Center. Beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the center, Pam & Willy will provide roasted chestnuts, and from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. children’s crafts, food and 50/50 chance tickets will be available.
The center will also provide entertainment for spectators including the Jazz Band at noon, Carole Marriott’s Tumblers at 1 p.m., Cloggers at 1:45 p.m. and the Eldon High School choir at 2:30 p.m.

Before Eldon begins its Christmas Celebration, Eldon Chamber members can also attend a free web seminar from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 at Citizen’s Bank of Eldon, which is located at 110 S. Maple St. in Eldon. Presented by Sandy and Mike Waggett from MSW Interactive Designs, the web seminar is titled “Putting the Web to Work For Your Business.” The MSW team will present 15 ways to enhance your business’s web usage. Attendees must R.S.V.P. as seating will be limited. Call the Chamber office at 573-392-3752 to reserve your seat.
In addition, the Eldon Chamber of Commerce encourage members and the community to visit its website. The Eldon Chamber also has social network connections including a new Facebook page, as well, thanks to the upkeep of PAVE AmeriCorps Vista employee serving a year for the Chamber, Chris Yows.
