Osage crushes Tipton on mat

The Osage wrestlers won a decisive 60-24 against the Tipton Cardinals on Jan. 10, sweeping the 106-160 weight groups.

Zach Curran (106), Chris Johnson (113), Brad Russell (132), and Kyle Christenson (160) won by forfeit. Trevor Koncevic (120), Dalton Mundy (126), Greg Crosby (138), and Garrett Miller (152) all won by fall.

Mason Beckum (170), Dario Overly (182), Aidan Williams (195) and Alex Weatherspoon (285) lost their rounds.

Ryan Kohout (220) won his round by fall after a grueling 4:16 matchup with Zane Stover.

The team took 12 athletes to the Warsaw Tournament on Jan. 14 to participate against wrestlers from 17 schools in one of the larger competetions of the season.

The Indian grapplers represented well, bringing home three third-place and two fourth-place finishes.

Zach Curran, Garrett Miller and Kyle Christenson all placed third, while Ryan Kohout and Chris Johnson took home fourth place wins.

“The rest of the team had a good day,” said Osage coach Randy Satterlee. “They just fell in seeding to the ‘C’ bracket, which didn’t allow wrestling to a place position.”

Curran posted a technical fall against Adrian’s state ranked Jeremy Dryden and Christenson upset the ranking by beating out 8th ranked Curtis Quick from Sherwood.

Miller put together three great matches on the day, dropping one to tough opponent Jordan Silvey of Versailles.

In the “C” bracket, Greg Crosby and Bradley Russell both went 3-1 for the day.

“I was really proud of the kids,” said Satterlee. “It was a full 14-hour day and they all did really well.”

The Indians are at home this week, hosting Versailles Tuesday night in a rescheduled match and again on Thursday against Fatima.
