January is National Blood Donor Month

Since 1970, January has been declared National Blood Donor Month, and with good reason. January is the month that presents the most challenges for blood collection. Changing weather, busy holiday schedules, increased cold and flu symptoms and even the winter blues can keep the most dedicated blood donors from making or keeping an appointment to give.

Area patients are in need of blood. Supplies are short. It’s a great time to be celebrating the lifesaving gifts that blood donors give every day.

Blood donors who want to support local hospital patients can get the year started off right by giving blood at a Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO) drive or donor center near you. It’s easy to find a drive. Log on to www.cbco.org, and then click on “Get Involved.” You can quickly find and schedule an appointment at a blood drive coming to your area. You’ll also be able to read about lives that have been saved, get event updates and even cholesterol results from your last donation.

CBCO donors provide all of the blood and blood products used by patients at thirty-seven area hospitals.

The scheduled blood drives in January for Camden County are as follows: Jan. 20 at Camden County Courthouse in Camdenton from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and Jan. 23 at Ameren in Lake Ozark from 3-7 p.m.
