The Osage Lady Indians hosted their senior night honors game against the California Pintos on Valentine’s Day and were handed a 46-41 loss, resulting in a short-term four-way tie for a Tri County Conference title.
The Indians paced the Pintos in the first period, with seniors Summer Dean, Shelynna Luttrell and Tiffany Urwiler each netting four points to California’s 11. The second quarter was a different story with the Pintos pressuring the Osage ladies into making fouls and then capitalizing on the free throws. The Pintos took their momentum into the lockers at the half with a 20-14 lead.
After the break, Shelynna Luttrell would break out, scoring 11 of the Indians’ 13 points. It would be Summer Dean leading the ladies in the fourth, bucketing seven of the Osage 14 points. The Pinto ladies might have lost a step in defense, but the Indians couldn’t stop them offensively. With 15 seconds left in the game Pinto Ellie Miller connected on a 3-pointer to break a 41-41 tie. Dean was able to sink the final two points, but it wasn’t enough to reclaim the victory.
Luttrell led the Indians with 17 points, bucketing 11-of-12 free throws in the process. Dean finished with 13 points, while Tara Allman and Urwiler added five and four respectively. Daisy Ralston rounded it out with two points.
The Indians finished the regular season on the road at Eldon, bringing home a 40-34 loss at the hands of the Mustangs.
No. 3 seed Osage (13-9) faced No. 2 Eldon (21-4) on Tuesday night in District 10 action in Eldon. The winner of that match will play at 6 p.m. Friday for the district championship.
