Camdenton speech, debate team fares well in Jefferson City

Numerous Camdenton High School students earned success at the Capital City Classic Speech and Debate Tournament held in Jefferson City on Feb. 3-4.

The team placed a close second to powerhouse Springfield Central out of 20 schools competing.

Overall team sweeps, including the top five out of 20 are: Springfield Central-450; Camdenton-435; Parkway West-355; Parkway South-320; Brentwood-275.

Finalists include Austin McGuire, first place (Student Congress); Alexis Lumley, first place (Dramatic Interpretation) and fifth place (Humorous Interpretation); Shelby Boze, second place (Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate), fifth place (Prose Interpretation) and sixth place (Dramatic Interpretation); Adam Shields, first place (Storytelling); Ellie Harmon, second place (Original Oration); Rose Anderson, third place (Original Oration); Corban Hickman, third place (Lincoln-Douglas Debate); Adam Shields/Cristel Hager, third place (Duo Interpretation); Josh Mitchell, fourth place (Lincoln-Douglas Debate); Kevin Bird/Austin McGuire, fourth place (Policy Debate); Kevin Bird, fourth place (Student Congress); Nathan Palmer, fourth place (Lincoln-Douglas Debate); Nick Horne/Abbi White, fourth place (Duo Interpretation); Anneleshia Ornelas, fourth place (Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate); Macy Sparks, fourth place (Storytelling); and Brett Helms/Macy Sparks, sixth place (Duo Interpretation).

Individual events semi-finalists include Logan Gilbert (Student Congress), Kasey Schaumburg (Prose), Brett Helms (Prose), Nick Horne (Humorous Interpretation), Josiah Blansett/Mason Taft (Duo Interpretation), Josh Mitchell/Corban Hickman (Duo Interpretation), Katie Chappell (Dramatic Interpretation), Cristel Hager (Dramatic Interpretation) and Alaina Sonksen (Poetry Interpretation).
