In Class 3 District 4, the Camdenton grapplers finished with 36 points and 11th place. Staley finished first in their class with 243.5 points. Staley, 243.5; Kearney, 218.0; Platte County, 137.0; Oak Park, 133.0; Warrensburg, 118.5; Fort Osage, 97.0; Belton, 68.0; Smith-Cotton, 65.0; Helias, 57.5; Liberty North, 54.0; Camdenton, 36.0; Raytown, 33.0; Raytown South, 10.0; Grandview, 4.0.
In the last regular season match that Osage had before the district competition, they beat Warsaw 66-18. Zach Curran (106) pinned the stateranked Marshall Wilson to start off. Mason Beckum (170) pinned his opponent at 1:28 in the first round, a season highlight for the senior. Osage won all but 3 matches for the night, and all by pin.
“This was just what we needed going into districts,” said Osage coach Randy Satterlee. “As coaches, we’re very excited about the level at which our kids are wrestling.”
“Our wrestlers are seeded in better spots than we’ve ever had at the district level. Our district is extremely hard to advance out of, but with some tough wrestling we hope to get someone to advance to the state level,” he added.
For Osage, Chris Johnson (106) placed fourth and Kyle Christenson (160) placed third. For Camdenton, Anthony Franicevich (106) advances with a third-place finish.
The MSHSAA State Wrestling Championship will be held this weekend at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
