Osage girls on five-game winning streak

The Osage Lady Indians finished last week with a five-game win streak after a 40-38 road win against Southern Boone and a 42-33 home victory against Hallsville.

On Feb. 6 the Lady Indians found themselves facing a mirror image in SoBo’s Lady Eagles but determined to bring home the win.

It was a defensive struggle through most of the game; with Osage taking a 19-15 lead into the second half. With Southern Boone behind 34-26 late in the fourth quarter, the Eagles tied it up by stringing together two 3-pointers and a couple of freethrows. With the game tied at 38 in the final seconds, a Kelsey Abbott layup won the game for the Indians.

On Feb. 9, the Lady Indians played the first half of a boys/girls double header against Hallsville and shut down the other Indians with a strong defense and a full team effort.

Osage took a 14-5 lead after the first quarter and were still up 20-11 at the half. After the break they kept up the court presence and led 38-20 at the end of three.

By the fourth quarter, the Osage ladies began to show a little wear and Hallsville switched to a full court press. A pressured Osage group let the other Indians score 10 unanswered points to drive the score to 38-30 with a little over three minutes left on the clock.

Osage got their defense back together and added another four points to their total. Hallsville’s only remaining points were gained from a pair of free-throws in the final two minutes. The maroon Indians held on to the lead to the end.

Shelynna Luttrell led Osage with 13 points before fouling out in the final minutes of the game. Tara Allman and Summer Dean added nine points each. Tiffany Urwiler and Kelsey Abbott each contributed four points and Daisy Ralston finished with three.

Osage will close out its regular season this week, hosting Iberia on Monday and California on Tuesday. The California game is senior night for the Lady Indians and seniors Shelynna Luttrell, Summer Dean, Tiffany Urwiler, Kelsey Abbott and Tara Allman will be recognized. They finish on the road Thursday in Eldon.

Next week they are back in Eldon for the Class 4 District 10 Tournament. The No. 3 seed Osage Lady Indians (13-7) will face off with No. 2 Eldon (19-3) at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 with the winner advancing to the championship game at 6 p.m. Feb. 24.
