The Camdenton boys team struggles continued last week, kicking off with a 50-41 loss on the road to the Waynesville Tigers.
On Friday, the Lakers hosted their final match for the 2011-12 season and were dealt a loss of 53-46 at the hands of the Rolla Bulldogs. It was both senior night and court warming for the Lakers.
Rolla took a 14-13 lead after the first period and outscored the Lakers 10-8 in the second, sending the teams to intermission with a 23-19 deficit.
Despite Camdenton’s struggles, they were able to hold the Bulldogs within striking distance the entire game. Both teams struggled in the second half, with the Lakers keeping pace in the third, going into the final period down by only six points.
The Bulldogs fired up in the fourth, adding 20 points to their score, but the Lakers kept fighting back and added 19 points of their own. It wasn’t enough in the end, though as the Bulldogs finished their sweep of the teams in District 5 with a win.
Junior John Hyde led the Lakers with 17 points with senior Marcus Nicholson adding 15. Sophomore guards Kullen Carlock and Ryan Elliott finished with six and five points respectively and sophomore forward Bobby Johnson contributed three points.
The Lakers will finish their regular season on the road with a Valentine’s Day matchup against Lebanon and a Friday trip to Hillcrest before heading into the District 10 Tournament the week of Feb. 20.
No. 5 seed Camdenton (2-18) will face No. 4 seed West Plains (14-10) in the Class 5 District 10 Tournament opener on Feb. 20 at 7:30 at West Plains High School. The winner of that game will advance to face No. 1 seed Rolla at 6 p.m. Feb. 22. The championship game will be played at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24.
