A 50-24 second-round win over St. Elizabeth sent the Lady Mustangs into a championship bout against No. 2 seed Crocker on Feb. 4.
Eldon jumped out from the start, ending the first half with a 26-8 lead. The second half was more of the same as the Hornets were all but shut down by the Eldon defense. Rhine led the Mustangs scoring with 19 points.
In the first place matchup the ladies had to battle Crocker on their home court.
The Lions weren’t going to go without a fight and at the end of the first period the teams were tied at 11. By halftime, the Mustangs were able to garner a six-point lead.
The Lady Mustangs beat Crocker by a score of 49-45 to take home the title honors and advance their record to 17-3 with district action on the horizon.
They hosted Warsaw at home on Monday in a conference matchup and will be on the road Thursday, taking on the Versailles Tigers. They will finish the regular season next week at home, facing North Callaway on Feb. 13 and Osage on Feb. 16. The district tournament will be held in Eldon this year and runs the week of Feb. 20.
