Osage wrestling triumphant at recent away match

Osage Indians wrestling team won their match over Springfield Catholic last week, taking a 60-12 victory on the road.

Kyle Carroll (106 pounds) won by pin as did Skyler Bax (126), and Greg Crosby (145).

Alex Weatherspoon (220) took his opponent with a pin and senior Tyler Winn (285) also earned a six-point victory by pin in the first round.

Zach Curran, Chris Johnson, and Marco Molina all drew a bye for a win.

Michael Henley and Dalton Mundy both went a full three rounds to win their matches 8-7 and 5-0 respectively.

The Indian varsity grapplers have a 2-2 record for regular season play thus far. They were at the Harrisonville Christmas Tournament over the weekend and were on the road at Blair Oaks on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Results were not available as of press time.

The Harrisonville Tourney was an individual competition and the Indians fared well overall.

Kyle Carroll (106) won three of his matches by pin and one by decision. The pins were against Corey Zimmerman of Sparta, Riley Stewart of Kirksville, and Lawrence Woods of McCluer South. The decision was an 8-1 contest over Kaler Selvin of Pleasant Hills.

Carroll also drew a bye and took three match losses for the day, falling in a decision match against Chad Hachtel of St. Charles by a score of 9-1 and two technical pins against Drew Ditter of St. Charles West and Dayton West of Deer Creek.

Zach Curran had eight scheduled matches and took two by pins in the 113-weight class, taking down Austin Schuler of St. Charles West and Quentin Cotton of Seneca. Curran advanced twice due to byes, and won over Kimberly Straub of McCluerSouth by a technical fall score of 15-0.

Curran had fell to Brett Shull of Odessa by a score of 20-6 and lost to Deandre White of Center due to a medical forfeit (match stopped due to injury).

Chris Johnson (120) won three matches against Zuber of Raymore Peculiar, Sales of Clinton and Jones of Adrian and took two matches due to scheduled byes. He fell to Stiles of Nevada in a major decision match by a score of 18-5. Johnson’s final two matches were close calls, with a 7-2 decision to Roddick of Sparta and a 10-8 loss to Smith of Mexico.

SKyler Bax won his first three matches in the 126-weight class, claiming victories of Feltner of Sparta, Hertzberg of Carl Junction, Wimsatt of Adrian. Bax was forced to step out after sustaining injuries in a match and took injury losses as a result.

Greg Crosby took five wins for the day in the 145 class. Crosby pinned Brady Franklin of Pleasant Hills, Dalton Shunkwiler of Nevada, and Ryan Merenda of Kirksville in the first rounds and too a 14-6 decidion over Sam Robertson of Webb City.

Crosby’s only loss to pin was to Dalton Tipton of Smithville, but he fell in close decision matches against Biondo of St. Charles West and Jake Bartow of Odessa.

Alex Weatherspoon rounded out the Osage combatants with one win, pinning Bryce McMillan of Adrian in the 220 class.

Osage will resume their season after the break on the road at Buffalo on Jan. 3.
