Hey Lake Area let’s clean up the place

As anyone who knows me can tell you, I am one of those hyper-organized people that drive everybody else nuts.

It’s not hat I expect everybody to be as organized as I am, It’s just that when I want something I don’t want to have to search for it, so the best way to insure that that doesn’t happen it so put a thing back where it belongs when I’m done using it.

Of course, for the most part I’m a “live and let live” kind of person. I realize that life is a messy proposition and that we all need to learn to adjust our attitudes to get along in this world. Still, having said that, there are couple of things that others do that really bugs me.

Now I love the Lake Area and for the most part all the people who live here, but there is a habit that some folks have which simply drives me nuts. And that is littering. It always seems to me that tossing trash out of car windows or over the side of boats or leaving debris behind in campgrounds, parks and other public areas constitutes a kind of selfishness that does not take into account the rights of others who in the future will utilize those same spaces.

And, then there are those good intentioned people, who simply fail to clean up after themselves without ever realizing they are just as guilty of littering as those who intentionally scatter trash about.

For instance, take certain individuals who hold yard and/or garage sales.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am an avowed “yard sale-a-holic.” I love digging through other people’s cast offs and will gladly pay the price for a bunch of useless junk I don’t really need. But the one thing I don’t like about yard sales are those homegrown merchants of the useless who don’t bother to take their signs down when the sale is over.

I mean, come on folks! How are us yard sale fanatics supposed to know which ones are still going on and which ones were held last month if you never bother to take down the sign.

It doesn’t take any longer to pull a piece of cardboard off a post than it did to nail it up there. So when the sale is over - TAKE DOWN THE YARD SALE SIGNS, PLEASE!

The next group of unintentional litterers that really drive me crazy are political candidates.

I understand the need for campaign signs. I know that it is necessary to keep your name out in front of the voters until election day. And, most Lake Area candidates have done a good job of it. For the past six weeks there has been a plethora of political signage springing up like mushrooms throughout Miller, Morgan and Camden counties. But, win, lose or draw, the election is over folks. And while I know driving around and picking up campaign signs is going to take time and gas, it won’t take anymore than it did to put them up. So TAKE DOWN THE CAMPAIGN SIGNS, PLEASE!

And, believe me, if you are as diligent about taking all those signs down as you were about putting them up, the rest of us will be eternally grateful.
