The Osage grapplers took a loss when they hosted No. 2-ranked Blair Oaks at home on Dec. 20 and fell 52-28 to the undefeated Falcon squad.

The Indians were short three starting seniors, including current state ranked Ryan Kohout (No. 7 in the 220 lb. class) and Kyle Christenson, who finished last season with a top four ranking in the 160-pound weight class. Vince Sabourin, Christenson and Kohout were all sidelined by injuries.

“We knew it would be a battle against the Falcons,” said head coach Randy Satterlee. “They were slated with six kids that are state ranked. With our starters out, we had our work cut out for us.”

The JV squad started off on the right direction with wins coming from Kyle Carroll, Dario Overly and Aaron Sanderfer.

“When you get your back against the wall you have to come out fighting and that’s exactly what we did,” said Satterlee.

The Indians varsity stepped up with wins at 106 for Zach Curran over Cole Forck (pinned in the first round) and a Technical Fall for freshman Chris Johnson at 113 over Hunter Beasley.

In the 145 class, senior AJ Huston quickly pinned Zach Barlow just 28 seconds into the first round for his win and senior Garrett Miller won by Technical Fall over Caleb Bischoff at 152.

Alex Weatherspoon picked up the final six points for the Indians with a forfeit over Brad Richter in the 285 class.

“Overall, the team wrestled very well and we’re looking forward to the ‘lighter’ side of our schedule coming up. The break will be good for us, too – getting everyone back to health,” said Satterlee.

The Indians gave up three forfeits on the night due to injuries in the 126, 160 and 170 classes and dropped six matches on the mat to give the Falcons the win.

Osage will return to the mat on Jan. 3 when they travel to Buffalo to face the Marshfield Blue Jays.
