Terry Heig, chairman of the Elks Lodge Christmas Basket program for nine years, gives instructions to members who gathered to pack the boxes for delivery.

Their Christmas donation to the community provided assistance to 100 families, 250
children, and 21 seniors. They also gave $500 each to the Share the Harvest Food Pantry in Greenview, and the Ministerial Alliance Food Bank in Stover. The Lodge provided food boxes that contained a ham, hamburger, and 39 additional food items to needy families in Camden and Morgan County.

The Lady Elks Auxiliary donated personal care items and all the children, received toys, and a blanket. Delivery on Dec. 17 by 127 plus volunteers, who drove more than 3,527
miles, was a gratifying experience for those who participated. The entire Christmas project involved more than 200 Elks and Lady Elks who worked more than 1,530 hours and drove more than 8,600 miles.

This was the 23rd year that the Elks Lodge has delivered Christmas Baskets and Toys. The exact number of families helped 23 years ago is unclear, but in 1994 they delivered to 45 families and 73 children, according to Elks member John Dale. Every year they have added a few more families and in 2003 started delivering to three seniors. This year 100 families, 250 children and 21
seniors had a better Christmas, he added.
