As expected the Republican candidates scored heavily in the Lake Area. For U.S. Senate, Roy Blunt took Camden County by a margin of 2-1. Four of the five statewide ballot issues won in Camden County by a large margin, except Proposition B (the Puppy Mill Amendment) that lost by about 2,000 votes.
In local races, County Clerk Rowland Todd was retained by an almost 4-1 margin, and Republican candidate Kris Franken took the Presiding Commissioner seat by better than a 2-1 margin. Vicky (North) Burns beat her Democratic opponent Jacqueline Samuelson by a total of 12,007 votes to 4,363.
In Miller County, Blunt also won over voters by a large margin and the ballot issues reflected the vote totals in Camden County. U.S. Representative Ninth District Blaine Luektemeyer won by a large margin. The county races were for a large part uncontested.
The ballot question in Lake Ozark giving the city the right to issue $6 million in revenue bonds for sanitary sewer improvements passed 432 to 185.
In local Morgan County races, six Republicans won seats as did three Democrats. Proposition B also went down to defeat in the county. Republican candidate Jay Fischer beat Democrat John Boone for Presiding Commissioner by a total of 5,072 votes to 1,554.
For the State Representative District 155 seat, Republican candidate Diane Franklin beat Democrat John Page with a total in all three counties of 10,397 votes to 5,434.
Editor’s note: The tallies for statewide candidates, ballot issues and candidates with multi-county districts, only represent the votes received in each of the Lake Area counties. Overall results will be published in the Nov. 10 issue of The Lake Today.
