The Lake Today is the first full-color newspaper publication at Lake of the Ozarks.
As part of the family of newspaper and print products under Central Missouri Newspapers, Inc., The Lake Today delivers well-balanced local, state and national news, local and regional sports, entertainment, human interest, school, outdoors and recreation, and many other significant happenings and aspects of the entire Lake Area community. In addition to objective and, often, positive editorial pieces within The Lake Today’s pages, readers can view full-color pictures of familiar faces in its “Community Snapshots” and “Game Faces” sections, as well as informative columns from local experts in their fields.
From the time The Lake Today printed its first issue on Nov. 26, 2008, its readership has grown to span beyond its initial mailings to Osage Beach, Lake Ozark, Kaiser, the North Shore and immediate surrounding communities. Now, the Lake Today is delivered by mail to more than 8,000 subscribers as well as more than 850 households in HH (Horseshoe Bend) providing 100 percent mail delivery in Four Seasons area. With more than 3,500 copies distributed by racks in key areas, The Lake Today provides complete coverage with more than 12,000 copies in Lake Ozark, Osage Beach, Kaiser, the North Shore, Eldon, Camdenton and Versailles, as well as other communities. Although The Lake Today is nearing its third year of publication, our recent “opt-in” process defined the need for our paper as well as the overwhelming popularity of The Lake Today.
Even though the Lake Today falls under the umbrella of Central Missouri Newspapers, which includes sister newspapers The Jefferson City News Tribune, The Fulton Sun and The California Democrat, its editorial staff lives and works at the Lake, as well as many members of its advertising staff. Ceil Abbott has more than 35 years of experience as journalist including holding positions as a reporter, editor, graphic designer, and columnist, to name few. She has worked for newspapers in Illinois, Iowa and Missouri, for regional and national magazines, as well as newspaper stories published on the Associated Press and UPI wire services over the years. She resides in Camdenton. Samantha Edmondson has more than 12 years experience as a journalist holding positions as a reporter, editor, graphic designer, copy editor and managing editor. She has also worked for regional and city magazines, as well as dabbled in television production. She resides in Camdenton. Dianne Steingrubey has more than five years experience as a journalist holding positions as a reporter and photographer. She did an internship for six months at The Lake Today before being hired in November 2010. She resides in Osage Beach. Earlier this year, the Missouri State Teachers Association awarded The Lake Today a MSTA Media Award for “Best Features” in the Newspaper division for its “Our Lake Today” special section. This four-page, pullout section allows students within a school district to share news, feature articles, entertainment, sports and columns centered around their school and from their point of view. Three have been published from School of the Osage upper elementary and middle school students. The Lake Today will continue the “Our Lake Today” section with Osage in the 2011-12 school year and will also introduce Camdenton students to the Our Lake Today project. In the near future, The Lake Today hopes all Lake Area school districts can be involved in “Our Lake Today.” The Lake Today also has a talented advertising, distribution and graphic design staff, many who also live in the Lake area and central Missouri.
